Academic Boosters:

Megan Soyster

Responsibilities: Schedule, plan and coordinate the following –

  • Academic Lettering Ceremony, Straight A breakfasts (2), Rebels on the Rise (2), Senior 4.0 breakfast

  • Host practice SAT/ACT

  • Post AB Honor Roll in the Lobby each quarter

  • Fund raising for letters and patches and hosting the breakfasts throughout the school year

Shelly Modes

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the ANG committee and subcommittee leads to plan and put together the most awesome ANG celebration for the senior class….EVER!

  • Plan several fund raising events throughout the year leading up to ANG

  • Coordinate all money collected and checks paid out which requires working closely with the PTSA Treasurer and Money Manager

Arts in Education/Reflections Program:

Del Gann

Responsibilities:

Reflections -

  • Advertise program theme and rules in the Spring & develop teacher contacts in Academy, English and Art

  • Post specific deadlines at the beginning of the school year, once designated to teachers and students

  • Collect entries and proof to correct errors/omissions and make sure all rules and specifics are adhered to

  • Judge these entries by category and turn in one entry per category to Fairfax County PTSA (FCC of PTAS) by the due date

  • As FCCP advises progress pass this on to teachers and students keeping all informed of their progress and inform students of their final placements

  • Organize and coordinate through building management a room for the final awards ceremony and secure a display case to post all entries

  • Prepare certificates for all entrants and winners to present during awards ceremony to be held in the Spring

  • Report progress and updates to FHS PTSA when possible during monthly meetings

Communications:

Responsibilities:

  • Post monthly meeting reminders to the membership and assist in getting this in the weekly Principles Keep In Touch (KIT) the week prior to the meeting

  • Take care of all communications to the membership, excluding volunteer requests. Whether directly or through the PTSA website

  • Reporting PTSA information to the Virginia PTA

Website / Webmaster:

Hospitality Committee Chairperson:

Responsibilities: Oversee and manage hospitality and special events throughout the school year for:

  • Freshman/New Family Orientation Coffee

  • Teacher breakfasts & Teacher appreciation luncheon

  • Provide teacher gifts and treats throughout the year for holidays and special recognition functions such as “Welcome Back to School” in August, Halloween, Winter, Valentines and End of Year

  • Work with past years reps and contact the Fairfax High School director of Student Services, and get calendar of events for the upcoming school year and begin coordinating with Volunteer Coordinator for functions and planning for the upcoming year – ONGOING

  • Put together calendar of events and get posted to the website and advise PTSA Board accordingly

Legislation and Education Advocacy:

Responsibilities:

  • Attend events, meetings and conferences pertaining to our school, pyramid, district and overall education processes and issues*

  • Developing the electronic directory

  • Report back to PTSA with updates and bring to our attention any concerns or issues that may need to be addressed on behalf of our school or students throughout the year

*Attend meetings 2-4 times a year as parent representative from Fairfax HS and then report back to leadership to advise possible issues that cause concern

Volunteer Coordinator:

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate volunteers for the various PTSA and school related activities throughout the year

  • Requires organizational skills and maintaining email lists for distribution

  • Put together calendar of events and get posted to the website and advise PTSA Board accordingly

  • Monitor and be aware of volunteers needed for each event

  • Fast Desk and teacher assistance when needed

  • Work with past years reps and contact the Fairfax High School Director of Student Services, and get calendar of events for the upcoming school year and begin coordinating with Hospitality Chair for functions and planning for the upcoming year – ONGOING -

Budget/Audit

Responsibilities:

  • Review the past years income and expenses

  • Request chair persons to submit a general or “expected” budget for the upcoming school year

  • Works closely with PTSA Treasurer for balances, statements and reports

Nominating Committee

Responsibilities: On going throughout the year ~

  • Identify upcoming positions coming available on the board at the end of the current school year

  • Network and advertise to try and get as many people possible who might be interested in taking on a particular board position and help in advising potential candidates to understand duties and expectations

  • Getting the nominees on the slate for elections to be held during the board and general PTSA meetings at the end of the school year

ALL COMMITTEE CHAIRS SHOULD TRY TO ATTEND AS MANY PTSA GENERAL MEETINGS AS POSSIBLE. CONTACT PTSA PRESIDENT & PTSA RECORDING SECRETARY TO BE ADDED TO THE MONTHLY AGENDA WHEN NEEDED TO UPDATE AND PRESENT ISSUES:
